NTT partners with Southend-on-Sea Borough Council to help accelerate digital transformation and achieve its 2050 vision

London - UK, 16 June 2021– Today, global technology services provider, NTT Ltd. announced a partnership with Southend-on-Sea Borough Council to help the Council accelerate its digital transformation programme and achieve its Southend 2050 ambition.

As the local authority of Southend-on-Sea in Essex, the Borough Council is dedicated to providing its 183,100 residents with high quality, connected digital services. Following extensive conversations with those that live, work, visit, do business and study in the area, the Council created an ambitious vision for the future: Southend 2050. As part of this plan, Southend-on-Sea embarked on a digital transformation programme designed to modernise its internal processes and incorporate smart technology into public services.

After reviewing Southend-on-Sea’s position in 2019, however, the IT team recognised gaps and inefficiencies across the organisation that had the potential to hinder progress. As a result, the Council chose to partner with NTT to help it create a digital transformation roadmap. Initially, this has involved facilitating the migration to Microsoft Azure, as well as modernising infrastructure and ways of working.

When the pandemic began it brought about unexpected challenges, which meant the Council had to move quickly to ensure an effective Covid-response. Through working with NTT and taking an agile approach, the Council used technology to ensure the smooth running of general services. This involved rapidly deploying a suite of collaboration and remote working technologies that enabled the workforce to maintain service performance.

Steven Hemmings, head of enterprise architecture and digital innovation, Southend-on-Sea Borough Council comments: “With NTT we have secured a partner we are confident will enable us to enhance and execute our digital transformation programme and, in turn, help bring our 2050 ambition to life. As with every organisation, the pandemic has dramatically sped up the need to digitally transform –and ensuring our employees and residents have access to critical services has been a top priority. Working with NTT over the last year, we have benefitted not only from the team’s vast technology expertise and experienced engineers, but also from its agile and personalised approach.”

“We’re looking forward to continue our collaboration as we build out our post-pandemic digital transformation roadmap,” continued Hemmings. “I encourage all public sector organisations to consider smart private sector partnerships to help accelerate digital transformation goals.”
