NTT to expand U.S. Data Center footprint to Hillsboro, Oregon
NTT will construct five data centers totalling 144 megawatts of critical IT load on a 47-acre campus Hillsboro, Oregon, USA – 5 February 2020 – NTT Ltd., one of the world’s largest data center and technology services providers, today announced that its Global Data Centers division in the Americas will build a new Pacific Northwest data center campus on a 47-acre property in Hillsboro, Oregon. This campus will be a key strategic addition to NTT’s global data center portfolio, which operates the third-largest data center platform in the world, with over 160 data centers spanning more than 20 countries and regions.“We are excited to be taking the next step forward in our North American expansion plans by building a new data center campus in a prime location in the Hillsboro market,” said Ryuichi Matsuo, Executive Vice President for NTT Ltd.’s Global Data Centers division. “It’s a strategic decision to build a large data center campus in a network rich, business-friendly environment which also has renewable energy available.”
The Global Data Centers division in the Americas (formerly known as RagingWire Data Centers) is planning on offering a total of 144 megawatts of critical IT load on the new Hillsboro campus. There will be five buildings with a total of 1 million sq. ft. of space. The first six megawatts of critical IT load will be available in mid-2020.
Hillsboro data center clients will benefit from the reliability and low power rates of Portland General Electric (PGE), and also benefit from the region’s typically mild temperatures. Further savings for large enterprise users and cloud providers will come from no Oregon sales tax, as well as exemptions from property tax. The Hillsboro campus is directly connected to the fiber ring which connects all the major local data centers, businesses and cable landing sites.
“Connectivity to Asia through subsea cables, significant tax advantages and low operational costs, all make Hillsboro a strategic game-changer for companies looking for a data center location that will positively impact their bottom line,” said Doug Adams, President and CEO for the Global Data Centers division in the Americas.
The data centers on the Hillsboro campus will be designed with customizable high-density vaults in order to support both single-user and colocation requirements of hyperscale cloud and enterprise clients. Power and cooling systems will offer a 100% availability SLA by leveraging a “4 to make 3 design” to provide N+1 redundancy at the rack level. Choices for network connectivity will be plentiful in a carrier-neutral environment with access to many global and regional carriers, Internet service providers, and cloud services. Clients will be supported 24x7x365 by highly-trained, in-house staff experts in operations, facilities management, security, and shipping & receiving.
