NTT DATA's Transatel Empowers Toyota to Launch its First Connected Vehicle Project in Brazil and Argentina
7 March, 2025 – Toyota Motor Corp. has partnered with Transatel, a subsidiary of NTT DATA and a leading provider of global cellular connectivity solutions, to power the deployment of connected vehicle services in Latin America. As part of the collaboration, NTT DATA's Transatel multi-network (e)SIM cards are now integrated into Toyota vehicles produced for the LATAM market, enabling services such as telematics and onboard Wi-Fi hotspots. The rollout, already live for customers in Brazil and Argentina, is set to expand to Ecuador, Colombia, Panama, the Dominican Republic, Peru, and Chile in 2025.
Following partnerships with Jaguar Land Rover, Stellantis, and the BMW Group, NTT DATA's Transatel global Internet of Vehicles (IoV) platform now supports Toyota's first connectivity services in Latin America. This collaboration will enhance Toyota's digital in-vehicle offering, including vehicle-centric applications like telematics, remote controls, vehicle status, over-the-air updates, anti-theft services, and driver/passenger services such as onboard Wi-Fi for infotainment, via Transatel's own consumer connectivity brand Ubigi, enhancing their drivers' experience.
"We selected Transatel for their unique ability to address both OEM and end-customer connectivity needs with a single (e)SIM solution," said Martin Faigelbaum, Director Connected Technologies, Toyota Latin America & Caribbean. "Their global reach and deep expertise in connected car technologies allow us to manage connectivity across an entire region with one provider, achieving significant cost efficiencies and scalability for this critical deployment."
"As part of NTT, we are excited to begin this partnership with Toyota," said Jacques Bonifay, CEO of Transatel. "Since 2018, we have been at the forefront of automotive connectivity, and we look forward to strengthening our relationship with Toyota and other Japanese OEMs in the years to come."
NTT DATA's Transatel has recently expanded its presence in Latin America by registering as a full Mobile Virtual Network Operator ("Authorizada MVNO") in Brazil. To ensure premium service quality, the company has also installed two regional points-of-presence (POP) in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. This setup enables NTT DATA's automotive partners to fully utilize 4G and 5G technologies, allowing them to provide unique digital services for their customers and seamless in-vehicle connectivity that complies with local regulations.
NTT DATA's global MVNO leverages strategic partnerships with 250+ mobile carriers worldwide, including TIM in Brazil and Telefonica in Argentina, to provide multi-country cellular IoT connectivity solutions for industries such as manufacturing, smart cities, mobility, energy, utilities, agriculture, and mining. The company's capabilities in private LTE/5G networks further extend its market leadership.
NTT DATA has also been working hand in hand with Toyota in the development of its customer engagement app. This application acts as the single digital point of contact between Toyota and its customers through which they can access Toyota's entire digital ecosystem, which not only improves the customer experience but also expands the value chain of its mobility services.
