Between April and June every year, the calendar is dotted with important dates that remind us of our shared responsibility to protect the planet. These international days are more than symbolic — they are calls to action, and NTT DATA’s employees have once again responded by contributing their time, energy and skills to a range of projects and initiatives.
22 April: Earth Day
Earth Day is probably the most well-known environmental day, and it’s a reminder that the health of our planet is linked to our own wellbeing. Clear air, safe drinking water and fertile soil are necessities for us and for future generations.
20 May: World Bee Day
Bees and other pollinators are essential to our ecosystems. Supporting biodiversity helps to preserve the complex web of life that sustains us all.
8 June: World Oceans Day
Oceans regulate our climate, provide food and support several species. Healthy oceans are vital for our planet, and protecting them is essential for climate resilience and global food security.
Recognizing and celebrating these days is one step on the big picture. The real impact comes when we translate awareness into action — and that’s what we did! With more than 2,580 employees engaging in 47 events across 16 countries, we showed how we can all contribute to a sustainable future, proving that environmental care is a truly universal endeavor.
Waste reduction and circularity
Our offices in Australia and New Zealand established Green Corners with refill stations and comprehensive recycling for ewaste and hard-to-recycle household items. Teams in India transformed scrap materials into beautiful, ecofriendly cloth bags through their Rags to Bags activity, while the Philippines launched an inspiring honesty thrift shop to promote sustainable fashion and mindful consumption.
We even saw innovative projects repurposing everyday items, like turning eggshells into coasters and upcycling old laptops. Practical steps like promoting reusable tableware in Taiwan and encouraging everyone to bring their own cup during meetings in Thailand highlighted our daily dedication to reducing single-use plastics.

Biodiversity and ecosystem protection
In Frankfurt, teams spent time building insect hotels — crucial habitats for the pollinators that are essential for healthy environments. India saw widespread engagement, from coir pot plantations using biodegradable materials to crafting bee hotels from recycled bottles and weaving bamboo nests for sparrows, a heartwarming effort to bring back these once-common birds. We also planted a total of 108 trees in Costa Rica and Malaysia.

Teams in Auckland conducted a vital swamp cleanup, removing plastic and debris, while colleagues in Dalian, China, picked up trash along their coastline. Our Mumbai team led an impressive beach cleanup at Mahim.
Their collection and cleanup efforts resulted in the collection of 1,678kg of ewaste and the disposal of 298kg of other waste. We also tidied up our virtual world with a digital cleanup in India and the US that involved deleting 1.83TB of data.

Sustainability awareness and education
Beyond hands-on activities, we placed a strong emphasis on raising environmental consciousness. We hosted engaging environmental day quizzes and trivia challenges, along with a series of insightful webinars covering topics from low-waste management to reducing paper consumption and understanding bird–window collisions.
The Hong Kong team’s Dress in Blue initiative served as a visual reminder of our shared environmental commitment.
Volunteers in Bengaluru, India.
Across our offices in India, team members worked with our NGO partner, Way for Life, to design vibrant and thought-provoking posters inspired by the themes of World Environment Day and World Oceans Day. Way for Life distributed the posters to students in government schools, helping to spread the message of environmental responsibility far and wide and encourage students to care more deeply about the natural world.
We’re in this together
The planet doesn’t need one person doing everything perfectly; it needs millions doing what they can, consistently and passionately. And at NTT DATA, we’re committed to playing our part!
The challenges facing our planet are complex, but we believe the solutions are not impossible — especially when we face them together. By dedicating time and applying our personal and professional strengths and skills, we can contribute to a healthier planet that sustains all life for generations to come.
Let these international days serve as milestones for renewed commitment.
