NTT Signs MoU with Cyber Security Agency of Singapore to bolster Nation’s Cyber Defence

NTT reiterates its commitment to Singapore with investment of USD 10 million aimed at nurturing young talent to lead the country’s innovation journey

Singapore, 2 April 2024 – NTT DATA and NTT Security Holdings today entered a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA) to strengthen and boost the country's cyber defence efforts. This was announced at NTT’s transformative tech summit, IGNITE 2024, which serves as a platform to showcase groundbreaking innovations and empower local businesses. The event was attended by Mr. Tan Kiat How, Senior Minister of State for Communications and Information in Singapore., where he delivered a speech on the commitment to advancing our digital economy and witnessed the signing of the MoU.

The tripartite MoU was signed by Mr. Chua Kuan Seah, Deputy Chief Executive (Development) of CSA, Mr. Png Kim Meng, Chief Executive Officer, Singapore, NTT DATA, Inc. and Ms. Mihoko Matsubara, Chief Cybersecurity Strategist of NTT Holdings, representing NTT Security Holdings Corporation. The agreement aims to facilitate discussions on cybersecurity collaboration, including exchange of intelligence on cyber threats, online scams and vulnerabilities, technical cooperation to develop cybersecurity solutions through research to support the Singapore Government in strengthening its national cyber defence. CSA and NTT will also engage in regular reviews to assess opportunities, risks, and challenges associated with emerging technologies like AI and quantum security.

This initiative adds to NTT DATA’s ongoing commitment to Singapore, focused on talent development and sustainable innovation. With an investment of USD 10 million, NTT DATA will continue to partner with Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA, statutory board under the Singapore Ministry of Communications and Information) and institutes of higher learning to develop the next generation of tech leaders to lead the country’s innovation journey. One such partnership is through IMDA’s Company-Led Training (CLT) programme, which places and trains tech talent in Cybersecurity, Network & Infrastructure, Software & Applications, and Cloud Computing, under the TechSkills Accelerator (TeSA) Initiative. NTT DATA has also invested in a secure data sovereignty platform for enhanced security, faster learning, and sustainability. These initiatives empower Singapore's future by fostering innovation, skilled jobs, and competitiveness.

“Cybersecurity is a team effort,” said Mr. Chua Kuan Seah, adding “It is therefore essential for CSA to collaborate with industry players to leverage their capabilities and deep domain expertise to jointly shape the digital terrain for Singapore in our endeavour to protect and defend Singapore’s cyberspace. Our partnership with NTT through this MoU – our first with a company headquartered in Japan – forms the foundations of a strong public-private cybersecurity community to facilitate information sharing and enhance our situational awareness of cyber threats and incidents and deliver better cybersecurity outcomes for Singapore and our stakeholders.”

Mr. Png Kim Meng said, ‘’The MoU will serve as a crucial first step in our efforts to build a resilient digital economy amidst the ever-evolving landscape. It is imperative that in an increasingly digitally connected world, businesses are adequately equipped with the right capabilities to cope with the cybersecurity risks emerging from today’s technological advancements. Our collaboration aims to strengthen the nation's cyber defence by combining NTT DATA’s tech expertise with the intelligence from CSA to provide robust solutions that safeguard our critical infrastructure and sensitive data. Together, we aspire to set new standards in cybersecurity, ensuring a secure digital landscape for the nation.”
