NTT partners with XL Axiata to implement private IT cloud infrastructure to meet new market developments in Indonesia
Singapore – 20 May 2021 – NTT Ltd., a world leading global technology services provider, today announced the successful implementation of a private IT cloud infrastructure for XL Axiata, one of Indonesia’s leading cellular operators. During the global COVID-19 pandemic, office and school closures have exposed the country’s digital divide, resulting in an increased reliance for internet and connectivity services to ensure operational continuity. This new implementation shortens the time to process individual service requests and strengthens XL Axiata’s network capacity to meet the surge in data needs, contributing to long-term business growth while addressing new market developments. In line with the Making Indonesia 4.0 programme, Indonesia has undertaken a journey to transition from a resource-based to a knowledge-based economy through the development of emerging technologies. This move has spurred service providers seeking to capitalize and thrive in this new economy, pushing them to seek out advanced infrastructure capable of supporting these new ambitions.
To enable innovation and greater business agility, a year-long project was undertaken to consolidate XL Axiata’s legacy IT environment into a private IT cloud infrastructure to reduce Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), accelerate cloud migration and improve workflow efficiency, time to market and resource agility. XL Axiata had several internal IT requirements that needed urgent virtualization into a new self-sufficient cloud platform.
By integrating solutions from VMware, Cisco, F5, Check Point, Dell, Veeam, and McAfee into a single solution to create a unified IT cloud infrastructure, NTT enabled XL Axiata to consolidate its end-to-end components, such as servers, storage, networks and security. In doing so, XL Axiata can accelerate its service agility, as well as simplify network and security configuration in order to maintain market dominance and strong network leadership.
The solution built by NTT also enables XL Axiata to automate its provisioning processes and repetitive IT service requests, in addition to centralizing its IT operational model. Other benefits include helping XL Axiata to improve IT resource productivity and simplified backup recovery operations. As a result, XL Axiata now enjoys reduced costs and increased end-to-end visibility for each division, in which to unlock future capabilities while controlling costs.
Upon project completion, NTT provided post-implementation support and ensured a smooth transition phase by shadowing an appointed Managed Services team for daily operations including workload onboarding and subsequent handover.
Hendra Lesmana, CEO, NTT Indonesia Solutions said, “Most of our clients aim to accelerate their cloud migration as part of their digital transformation journey, but many are held back by the complexity of consolidating their legacy infrastructure and fierce market competition in today’s telecommunications landscape. Through our strong relationships with multiple technology vendors, we are pleased to help XL Axiata futureproof and unify their IT cloud infrastructure so that they are better prepared for tomorrow’s challenges and beyond.”
I Gede Darmayusa, Director & Chief Technology Officer for XL Axiata added, “XL Axiata is committed to provide the best service experience to our customers. Our focus has been to strive for the network implementation of 5G services in Indonesia, which requires the readiness of other IT ecosystems. As our long-standing partner, we are confident of NTT’s deep understanding of our business operations and their capability to rapidly enhance and expand our network systems to meet new demands of Indonesia’s telecommunications sector.”
