London 1 Data Center: delivering state-of-the-art facilities to a key European bank

Together with this European bank, we’re keeping them connected to their global customers. With the lease on one of their offices ending the bank decided to move their primary and backup data centers to third-party data centers. Following a rigorous RFP process, they selected our London 1 Data Center as their primary data center and Hemel Hempstead 3 for their disaster recovery site. Working with our team they were able to ensure that all their requirements were met including biometric physical access control to their equipment and staging facilities to prepare their infrastructure prior to deployment. Even though they had tight timelines, we were able to ensure they met all their deadlines.

Vision

When a key European banking institution needed to move their primary data center, they decided to relocate it to a third-party data center rather than continuing to host the infrastructure themselves.

This required that they find a data center partner who was able to meet their strict criteria with regards to security and availability. They were looking for a facility that would not only meet their current needs but also cover any future demands.

The bank had an existing relationship with NTT DATA Services who were providing them with a range of services including security and consulting services. This led to them engaging with us as part of their broader RFP process.

It was critical for them that all regulatory and governance requirements were complied with, but at the end of the competitive process, they decided to move their primary data center to our newly completed London 1 Data Center, with their backup site moving to our established Hemel Hempstead 3 Data Center.

Key to their decision-making process was the high standard of our data centers, as well as the full stack of products and services NTT Group offers.

About London 1

Our London 1 Data Center provides the bank with access to all key network providers, allowing them to connect their primary and backup sites. The data center is connected to major carrier hubs and cloud networks, as well as to the London Internet Exchange (LINX).

Transformation

Once they had decided to use our London 1 Data Center, we worked closely together to ensure that all the required contractual requirements were met.

With their existing lease coming to an end, they had strict deadlines that needed to be met. While this compressed our timelines our optimized standard processes meant that we were able to meet all the stipulated timelines.

London 1 is one of our newest data centers and the bank was one of the first clients to take up space in the facility.

The confidential nature of their data also meant that they needed to ensure that their infrastructure was physically secure including full biometric access control.

In total, they are occupying 30 racks with 75KW of power at both their primary and backup locations.

In parallel to the data center move the bank had decided to refresh the technology powering their data center, taking advantage of the opportunity that the move presented them with. This enabled them to set up the new infrastructure in London 1 while the existing data center continued to power their daily business.

Using the staging rooms at our facilities they had the space available to ready the infrastructure before installation.
