Flexible bandwidth allows you to increase or decrease capacity as needed, without lengthy processes or contractual constraints. You scale capacity in real time, at the touch of a button, whether to support a short-term spike in activity or to accommodate planned changes in demand.

For instance, when a retailer experiences high demand during a peak trading period, they can easily scale their bandwidth up; once trading has normalized, they can scale it back down again.

This means connectivity is no longer a fixed organizational resource. It becomes something that can adapt to how your organization operates, supporting performance when demand is high and avoiding unnecessary costs when it’s not.

AI: When connectivity starts to think ahead

When all of this is in place and your network is operating in a more automated way, with fewer manual touchpoints, it becomes easier to collect data. And this data is invaluable, because once you run AI on the dataset, you can start to predict when outages will occur and put measures in place to protect your business operations.

Take something as simple as a router overheating. Most networks can pick that up, but AI adds a new dimension. Instead of waiting for the incident to become critical, it can automatically reroute traffic before the failure occurs, giving engineers time to resolve the issue without operational impact.

With embedded AI, network management becomes proactive — anticipating faults before they become issues, and responding quickly and intelligently.

What to look for in a connectivity provider

Connectivity demands are only increasing as your organization’s needs change. Basic connectivity isn’t enough anymore. So, you need to ask the right questions when you’re engaging with potential connectivity providers, and they should be able to answer them clearly.

For example, how is the network managed, and is automation built in end to end? Is the network flexible — in other words, can you scale up or down as demand changes without contractual obligations that tie your organization to a fixed capacity? And how well does the network integrate with other systems, so it can respond automatically as business demand shifts?

Ultimately, you need to know whether your connectivity provider can align with your organization, both operationally and from a cost perspective.
